When will Ukrainian hospitals receive ventilators?
While the number of Ukrainians diagnosed with COVID-19 is growing exponentially, government hasn’t bought any ventilators. This was stated by the Head of the Accounts Chamber – Valeriy Patskan on the air of “Ukrainian Radio”: “Of the total amount of funds to fight coronavirus in Ukraine, which is 66 billion hryvnias, 25 billion was spent, however, no ventilators were bought.” 25 billion from the fund to fight COVID-19 were spent on road construction and outpatient clinics, on unemployment payments and material assistance to doctors. Since March they didn’t get any vital ventilators. According to Patskan, the ventilators were to be purchased, and a tender was announced for the purchase of 100 devices with a delivery time – 30 October. Two of the participants in the auction offered devices that met the requirements, but later it turned out that the first supplier had no experience in supplying such devices, and the second had facts of non-fulfillment of preliminary contracts. Therefore, a new tender is underway now. Meanwhile, more than 4,000 thousand cases of diseases are recorded Ukraine and about 100 deaths every day.
